Wiregrass Ranch really was a ranch, owned by Florida's Porter Family since its purchase in the 1930s. The original homestead grew to take advantage of the area, planting citrus trees and raising cattle; there are a lot fewer cattle these days, but many of the original citrus groves are flourishing — by some estimates having taken over fully 10% of the original ranch land.
Over the coming years Wiregrass Ranch homes for sale will likely include some 10,000 single family homes and half that many multi-family units, backed by a master-planned support structure that will includes a hospital, community college, expanded county government offices and a slew of restaurants and shops; the retail end of things is centered around The Shops at Wiregrass, a “lifestyle center” with dozens of stores. In the heart of Wesley Chapel and right across the street from Seven Oaks, Wiregrass Ranch truly offers something for everyone at every price range.
Given the family history, it's no real surprise that the Porters have turned a great deal of their attention over the years to finding ways to get the most out of their land in terms of keeping that wide-open feel, even while developing thousands of acres of residential and commercial space — world-class golf is one obvious way to accomplish this. But that isn't to say they want Wiregrass Ranch to become a “bedroom community”; the master plan includes residential, commercial and industrial uses, with an eye toward a certain amount of self-sustainability in terms of many residents being able to live and raise families near where they work. The Porters also donated more than sixty acres of land to the Pasco-Hernando Community College, to help them develop a new campus close to the Wiregrass Ranch High School and John Long Middle School — meaning the development's access to education is unparalleled in the region.
The first homes for sale in Wiregrass Ranch are built in the “Estancia” Community — situated on 677 acres and are described as having a Mediterranean look, divided into four distinct gated communities centered around clubhouse complexes — which each feature their own pools, courts for tennis and basketball, and fitness amenities.
